Utah Medical Marijuana Patients Still Criminalized

Should cancer patients go to jail simply for using their doctor-recommended medicine? Sadly, current Utah law says they should. Current law sends sick and dying patients to prison instead of allowing them to receive medical treatment to ease their pain and suffering.

Unfortunately, legislators are not in tune with the population or with the Salt Lake Tribune, which editorialized in support of medical marijuana. Click here to read the editorial.

The Utah legislature needs to understand that the public wants to change the way Utah treats suffering and dying medical marijuana patients. Please urge your legislators to introduce a medical marijuana bill next session: Only you can convince them that this issue is vital to Utah residents.

Please also consider making an appointment to meet with each of your legislators to personally encourage him or her to introduce medical marijuana legislation. To find out who your legislator is and his or her contact information, click here. You can e-mail zane@mpp.org for briefing papers and other assistance.

Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project. Please pass this information on so that even more voices for reform can be heard. To stay updated on the status of marijuana policy reform in Utah, be sure to subscribe to MPP's free legislative alert service, if you haven't done so already.
